Northern CO’s Water Heater Maintenance Pro

Water Heater Service Picture

A water heater is no different than a furnace, boiler, or AC when it comes to needing annual maintenance. Hot water heaters should be maintained every year to keep them performing safely and efficiently. Furthermore, professional water heater preventive maintenance services will allow for any minor issues to be identified and corrected before they become major problems.

Viking Mechanical Services, LLC provides preventive maintenance on conventional and tankless water heaters in Longmont, Boulder, Westminster, and the surrounding areas. We offer affordable annual service plans that are designed to keep your yearly maintenance needs on schedule.

At Viking Mechanical Services, our Water Heater Preventive Maintenance service includes:

Check Water Pressure

Our professional plumbers will check the water pressure on the hose bib or drain valve. If the water pressure isn’t code, a new Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) will be suggested so that the water pressure is corrected.

Test Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV)

The PRV will be tested to ensure that the water pressure does not exceed 65 psi. High water pressure can cause extensive damage to the water heater, faucets, dishwasher, toilet valves, and other appliances throughout the home. If the PRV is faulty, or there is no PRV, our licensed plumbing technicians will recommend replacing or installing one.

Control Thermal Expansion

If your water heater has a thermal expansion tank, our plumbers will test air pressure to ensure it matches the water pressure. Should a thermal expansion tank need replacing or installed, our plumbers will provide sound recommendations.

Inspect T&P Relief Valve

The Temperature & Pressure (T&P) Relief Valve will be inspected for drips, which will occur with high water pressure or thermal expansion. If these aren’t the cause of the dripping, the T&P Relief Valve is likely faulty, and our plumbers will determine the best line of action.

Drain and Flush Hot Water Tank

As part of our comprehensive water heater maintenance service, we will drain and flush your hot water tank to remove sediment. Sediment build-up can make it hard for your tank to heat up, cause leaks, make noises, and shorten the tank’s lifespan.  Water heater drains and flushes are recommended once a year (or more for harsh water conditions) to keep the tank healthy.

Inspect Anode Rod

The Anode Rod helps to extend the life of the hot water heater by removing minerals that cause corrosion. Our service technicians will remove the anode rod to inspect it for depletion. It is recommended that the anode rod be replaced every three years, or more, depending on the water conditions.
